Lookout tower Jeřabina- Litvínov

Address: Křižatky - Mníšek
Place: Litvínov
GPS coordinates: 50.614146, 13.520251
Region: Litvínov

The lookout tower at 788 metres above sea level has undergone an interesting development. The first wooden lookout tower on Jeřabina towered to a height of several metres and was opened in 1884. However, the weather conditions were not favourable to the construction and therefore the tower was demolished in the late 1980s and early 1990s and the first repairs had to be carried out. Further damage was caused in 1908, but this time no money was raised for repairs. During the First World War the tower fell into disrepair. German tourists were not discouraged and years later, in September 1929, a new tower stood on Jeřabina.  After World War II, the second structure also fell victim to vandals, and we could only see the foundations of the original tower from 1884. In the spring of 2009, the Klíny Sports Complex, in cooperation with the Statutory City of Most and the companies United Energy, a.s. and Emeran 1860, s.r.o., started the restoration of the tower to its 1929 appearance. The Jeřabina tower was reopened on 28 June 2009 and is now freely accessible to the public.
