The Kryštof Tower is one of the oldest galleries of Mauritius. The beginning of its excavation dates back to the second half of the 16th century and has been used for more than 200 years. The gallery survives to its present state in its original state and serves as an illustrative textbook of the excavation of mining works and mining methods used from the 16th to the 18th century.
Kryštof's own sightseeing route is more than 400 meters (back and forth). See sections cut by hand with the help of a handkerchief and a mortar, and the balls spread by fire bets. During the tour, you will encounter a few short turns, trenches and overpasses, and you will encounter miners' manikins in a contemporary design. The main attraction of the whole route is the huge underground chamber at the end of the gallery - a conquest of 65 meters in length, 4-9 meters in width and 15 meters in height, but some 25 meters in height. Part of the chamber tour is impressive audiovisual screenings.
Conditions of access to the gallery:
Exciting tours require proper equipment that is lent to visitors. Tours are not recommended for bulky people due to the narrow passageway section of the corridors.
Entry is prohibited in the gallery:
- children under 10 years of age
- People with phobias from confined spaces
- people with medical (movement) problems and problems with maintaining balance
- persons under the influence of other addictive substances
- dogs and other animals
We recommend hot "outdoor" clothing including hot socks and boots. The visitor must count on possible contamination of his clothes.
